AAS Checksheets

All of the course requirements for the Administration of Justice Studies two-year Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree are listed on a special checksheet. Students are advised to utilize the checksheet when selecting their courses. The checksheet is divided into three sections, which list the Required Courses, Restricted Electives and General Studies Requirements.

Administration of Justice Studies (AJS) majors must take all nine of the required courses, which total 27 credit hours of study. In addition, Administration of Justice Studies majors also take an additional 15 credits of AJS or JUD coursework (usually about five courses) in subject areas that they are particularly interested in, such as forensic science, police-related courses, etc.

Students may receive permission to take one or two non-AJS prefixed courses that relate to their AJS major in the Restricted Electives section. For example, prospective lawyers are encouraged to take PHI103: Introduction to Logic and students wishing to work in a crime lab as criminalists (not crime scene technicians) are encouraged to take additional chemistry courses with lab components. Consult the AJS Program Director about such substitutions.

All SCC students enrolled in two-year degree programs, not just AJS majors, must also take General Studies courses to help make them literate, articulate and well-rounded persons. These General Studies courses consist of English, communications, critical reading, mathematics, a lab science course and a criminal justice ethics course.

It is strongly recommended that Administration of Justice Studies students, especially those anticipating eventual transfer to a four-year college or university, consult the AJS Program Director, Dr. John Kavanagh, before registering for any courses.

If you began taking courses at SCC prior to the Fall 2003 semester and did not interrupt your coursework for more than two consecutive semesters, not counting summer semesters, you may use the 2003-2004 AJS Checksheet mentioned above or the earlier 2000-2003 Checksheet.
