Description: The Certificate of Completion in Justice Studies will provide a core of courses for students who are interested in pursuing a career in Justice Studies. For students who are pursuing an AAS in Justice Studies, completion of the certificate will provide an area of specialization within their degree program.

Program Competencies

1.

Demonstrate literacy in microcomputer applications and the ability to use microcomputer applications as they relate to criminal justice studies and criminal justice work.

2.

Identify and describe procedures practiced by courts of general and original jurisdiction.

3.

Conduct legal research and prepare and present a case in the adversary process.

4.

Identify and describe procedures and methods of operations of public police and explain the discretionary powers of the working police officer.

5.

Describe the history and development of correctional theories and institutions.

6.

Identify and describe the theory and practice of criminal investigation, including crime scene procedures, interviewing, case preparation and basic investigative techniques.
