Entering her
12th year at Scottsdale Community College and her
10th season as Head Volleyball Coach, Regina Mannix
is one of the most accomplished coaches and former
players in Arizona. Mannix began her career at
Scottsdale as the Assistant Volleyball Coach, but
quickly advanced to take the reins as Head Coach and
the former Assistant Athletic Director. During her
past ten years as Head Coach, Mannix has produced
several NJCAA All-Americans and multiple ACCAC Players of
the Year. In the 2001 season, SCC was the ACCAC
Conference Co-Champions with a conference record of
16-2 and an overall season record of 33-11. The
season was also marked by Scottsdale's seventh
straight playoff appearance. The 2001 team had four
players chosen to All-ACCAC Teams, one All-American,
the ACCAC Player of the Year, two Academic
All-Americans, and was an NJCAA Academic All
American Team. Mannix was also honored as the ACCAC
Coach of the Year.
Mannix's prowess and accomplishments on the court in
high school and college have formed the foundation
for her coaching style. Mannix grew up in Norwalk,
California and attended Gahr High School in
Cerritos, California. While at Gahr, she played
for renowned volleyball coach Brian Gimmillaro.
While still in high school, Mannix competed as a
setter internationally in Finland, England and
Russia. In 1983, as a senior, Mannix was named
C.I.F. Co-Player of the Year and was also named
All-State. She was also ranked in the 1984,
Volleyball Magazine, "Fab Fifty" list.
In
the fall of 1984, Mannix moved to Tempe, Arizona,
where she received a scholarship to set for the
Arizona State Sun Devils. Mannix immediately
stepped in as the teams starting setter. During her
freshman season at ASU, Mannix was named
All-Tournament at the LSU Invitational Tournament
and was Honorable Mention All-Conference in the WCAA.
In her sophomore year, Mannix was the MVP of the
Roadrunner Invitational and was also Second Team
All-Conference in the PacWest. During this season
and the following ('85 & '86), Mannix was asked to
participate in two U.S. Olympic Sports Festivals; at
which, she earned two silver medals. During her
junior season, in addition to the Festival
competition, Mannix was also named the Co-MVP at the
Husker Invitational Tournament and Second Team
All-Conference in the Pac-10. She was also honored
as an All-Region selection and as a NCAA
All-American. In 1987, Mannix's senior season, she
received an All-Region selection and was named First
Team All-Conference in the Pac-10.
In
addition to all of the honors compiled by Mannix in
her four years at ASU, she currently holds nine
records at the University. Mannix holds three
"Freshman Records" for aces in a season, aces in a
match, and assists in a match. She holds two
"Single Match" records for assists per match and
aces per match. She has two "Single Season" records
for assists in a season and aces in a season. And
she holds two "Career" records for total career
assists and total career aces. Complimenting these
university records, Mannix also currently holds four
Pac-10 records. She has the third most career
assists in Pac 10 history with 5,180 assists. She
also holds the third position in Pac-10 history for
the most assists in a single match with 90 assists.
In addition to her accomplishments setting, Mannix
is also ranked second in Pac-10 history in career
service aces with 178 aces. She also holds the
second place Pac 10 record for service aces in a
single match with 9 aces.
Mannix
graduated from Arizona State University with a
Bachelor of Science in Justice Administration and
received her Masters in Counseling in the summer of
2001. Mannix also has two daughters, Riley and
McKenna, with her husband Brian.
