The Dance program at SCC is an affordable, professional program that allows students to explore, grow, and find their niche in the world of dance. The program offers a wide array of classes ranging from beginning to more advanced levels, and designed for both the community member wishing to just explore or for the more advanced dancer wishing to develop a higher level of technique. As the largest dance program of all the 10 community colleges in the Maricopa District, besides a large array of dance classes, it is the home to 3 established performing companies. We offer an Associate of Arts degree in Dance Technology and an Associate of Fine Arts degree in Dance. The students have gone on to attend ASU, NAU, U of A, University o f Utah, CalArts, Sam Houston State, University of Texas, University of Oklahoma as wells as joining local and national performing companies. Lead by Patricia Bodell, BFA and MFA from University of Utah, she, over the last 19 years has grown the program to 45 classes, 21 faculty and several guest artist each year come to create works on the performing companies. SCC Dance hosts the only summer dance conservatory of the colleges. The Summer Dance Conservatory is a six-week intensive program offering students age 16 + an intensive dance experience. Every year SCC Dance attends the prestigious collegiate American College Dance Festival, receiving award for performance and choreography. SCC Dance has been selected for the final gala performance both in 2000 and 2004. The faculty are all working professionals and dance artists recognized both locally and nationally. SCC Dance is also connected to the community through performances and faculty outreach to local high schools. There are frequent collaborations with the music and art departments in performance. Whether your interest is performing, working behind the scenes, choreography, or simply understanding and appreciating the world of dance, the SCC Dance Program can meet your needs.
